چکیده

Objective: Explore the practical clinical significance and correlation of voice handicap index (VHI) for vocal polyps and vocal nodules, and further validate practicality of VHI. Methods: VHI of vocal cord polyp group (n = 35), vocal nodule group (n = 29), and control group (n = 22) was surveyed respectively. The VHI investigation included three categories of function (F), physiology (P) and emotion (E). Each score of the three categories and total score (TVH) were recorded. Results: F, P, E, TVH average values of VHI for vocal cord polyp group were 9.57±7.62,18.86±8.91, 8.97±8.77,36.83±21.32, respectively. F, P, E,TVH average values of VHI for vocal nodule group were 9.75±7.87, 20.62±7.95,7.62±7.79,38.00±20.78. F, P, E, TVH average values of VHI for control group were 0.55+0.80, 0.73±1.03,0,1.27±1.67. VHI mean values of vocal cord polyp group and vocal nodule group were higher than that of control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P <0 01). Comparison of VHI average of vocal cord polyp and vocal nodule group indicated the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant (P> 005). There was no correlation between daily talk time, duration of diseases and VHI of patients with vocal cord polyp and vocal nodule (P> 0. 05); In vocal cord polyp group, the VHI of patients with occupations of sound using (39.48 ± 22.67) was compared with patients without sound using occupations (27.88 ± 13.42), and the difference was not statistically significant (P> 0. 05); In the vocal nodule group, VHI average of patients with career of sound (42.35 ± 22.11) was compared with that of non-occupational sound using patient (31.83 ± 17.82), and the difference was not statistically significant(P> 0. 05). Conclusion: There is no significant difference in VHI of vocal cord polyp and vocal nodule patients. Daily talk time, duration of diseases, and career are not influencing factors for vocal cord polyp and vocal nodule VHI.
